Drivers faced rush-hour delays in Walsall today while emergency repairs were carried out on a collapsed sewer.

moreSevern Trent Water started urgent repairs in Bescot Road on Saturday and it was hoped work would be finished by midday today.

Bosses said the work had to be carried out to avoid flooding.

The dual carriageway has been closed from the southbound M6 exit slip road into Bescot Road to the Morrisons store.

One lane of the dual carriageway leading back along Bescot Road towards junction 9 of the M6 has also been closed for the work. Diversions were set up through the Gallagher Retail Park.

People took to twitter to vent their frustrations. Jodie Powell wrote: "The traffic into Walsall this morning is ridiculous. Would have been ten times quicker walking."
