Carrying placards emblazoned with words 'Stop HS2' and banners showing 'Marston Against HS2' they marched through the centre of the town.

The £50 billion HS2 project has caused fury in rural Staffordshire with many homeowners stating they will prisoners in their own homes.

Some demanded that the public funded project should be pumped into saving Stafford Hospital. Hours later a separate demonstration was held in the town to save the much criticised hospital.

Protestors young and old left the rendezvous point of Tipping Street before marching to Gaol Square where the gathering stopped and delivered a message to passersby via a megaphone.

The demonstrators then walked back to Market Square where Trevor Forrester, a co-ordinator for HS2 action groups across the county, addressed the public.
