Drivers were today warned not to rely on sat navs or internet route maps to get them to the festival at Weston Park, in Staffordshire. A strategy to manage the traffic for next weekend's event have been drawn up following 'months of careful planning'.

Police have also said only people with tickets should travel to the festival and they should follow designated routes. Up to 90,000 revellers will descend on this year's festival, with headliners including Beyonce and Kings of Leon. Motorists travelling north on the M6 should join the M54, leave at junction three at Albrighton and follow the signs along the A41 to the West Gate car park. Cars on the southbound M6 should leave at junction 12 at Gailey and follow signs on the A5 to the East Gate. Leaving the park, vehicles should follow the signs that will direct them back to the motorways.

Drop off and collection points will also be signposted from both directions on the A5, as will routes for camper vans. Buses will also be running to take people from Wolverhampton, Stafford and Telford rail stations to Weston Park and back again.

Chief Inspector Pete Owen said: "Motorists are advised not to rely on sat nav or internet route maps as some roads will be closed in areas close to the venue.

Staffordshire County Council has been working with police to minimise any disruption.
