The MP for Dudley South almost died after he was diagnosed with the rare form of blood poisoning after falling ill in January.

Mr Wood initially fell ill earlier this year when he started to suffer from a sore throat.

He continued to work, but after attending the opening of the Brierley Hill Enterprise Zone at the end of January he felt so ill he was struggling to function.

He was placed into a medically-induced coma, and put onto life support.

Mr Wood spent three weeks in hospital undergoing treatment.

He also praised doctors and nursing staff at Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital for 'saving his life'.

He asked Prime Minister Theresa May to look at measures MPs could take to reduce deaths from sepsis and raise awareness of the condition.

Mr Wood also asked for a national registry to be established to effectively record instances of the the illness.

Mrs May responded saying: "It is fantastic to see him back in place and I hope he will have noted the welcome he got from across the house.

"He is absolutely right to bring a focus on the issue."
