No answers from Government on Chase line train problems

The Government has refused to be drawn on calls for train operators to be penalised for poor performance in the wake of the raft of problems that are blighting the Chase Line.

Passengers have complained of severe overcrowding, cancelled trains and insufficient services on the line in recent months.

The Leader of the House of Commons, David Lidington, said he wanted to see 'much closer work across the railway industry' to improve conditions on the line.

But he did not address calls from Cannock Chase MP Amanda Milling to outline any measures the Government may take to penalise poor performing train operators.

He added that 'more needs to be done' so that 'these kind of problems can be resolved much more swiftly'.

Ms Milling has launched a petition calling for better services on the line, which runs between Rugeley and Birmingham, passing through Walsall.

More than 600 people have signed the appeal, which the MP started after travelling on an early morning service from Rugeley towards Birmingham, declaring her shock at how overcrowded the train was.

London Midland has said they are working with the MP to address the problems.
