Wolverhampton MP Rob Marris backs Owen Smith for Labour leadership

Rob Marris has declared his support for Owen Smith in the Labour leadership contest.

The Wolverhampton South West MP says Mr Smith will be 'a unifying leader' of the party and that he is 'the best candidate' to replace Jeremy Corbyn.

The MP resigned Labour's frontbench claiming Mr Corbyn was not fit to lead Labour.

"Given the chance, he will be a unifying leader because he is an inclusive socialist. He wholeheartedly supports the parliamentary road to socialism."

Former shadow business secretary Angela Eagle has already launched her campaign and both contenders, alongside Mr Corbyn, were invited to take part in a hustings in front of fellow Labour MPs today.
