Labour Wolverhampton councillor to face standards committee

A Labour councillor is set to appear before Wolverhampton council's standards committee to answer allegations that he failed to comply with the authority's code of conduct.

It follows an investigation that centred on Councillor Harman Banger, who has represented East Park since 2011.

The authority's director of governance Kevin O'Keefe launched the probe last July after an anonymous letter was received making allegations of improper conduct on the part of Mr Banger.

Mr O'Keeffe said: "The committee met solely to determine whether, based on the information before it, a potential breach of the councillor code of conduct may have occurred, and to determine whether it would be necessary to hold a separate hearing where Councillor Banger will be invited to give his side of the story."

Mr Banger declined to comment.
