Councillor Derrick Hemingsley, who represents Wordsley, was suspended from the party at the end of last year but will now lose his title as a councillor under the terms of the Local Government Act.

Philip Tart, council strategic director for resources and transformation, said: "Councillor Hemingsley's term of office will end on April 21 in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, as he took the decision to absent himself from council meetings for personal reasons."

Councillor Hemingsley is on police bail.

Police confirmed a 55-year-old man had been arrested in Penzer Street, Kingswinford, on November 6 on suspicion of grooming.
