Funeral date set for Lord Bilston

The funeral of Lord Bilston, the former Wolverhampton South East MP Dennis Turner, will take place on March 12.

The Labour politician, who represented the constituency for 18 years, died on Tuesday. He was 71 and had been suffering from cancer.

The funeral will be at St Leonard's Church in Bilston at 11.30am. Lord Bilston's relatives have asked for donations to Compton Hospice in lieu of flowers.

The father of two was born and raised in Bradley and lived there his whole life. He was a councillor in Wolverhampton from 1966 to 1986 before standing down to contest the 1987 general election.

He was given a seat in the House of Lords upon his retirement as an MP in 2005.
