Police have warned that the fire is expected to cause damage to the road surface.

Staffordshire Police said: “A large HGV loaded with toilet rolls has caught fire and so for your safety we have closed Cannock Road (A460), the road between the M54 and M6, and access to and from connecting roads including Hilton Lane, New Lane and The Avenue.

“The fire is expected to last for a few hours and cause damage to the road surface, so we are advising all road users to avoid the area where possible and for local residents to keep their windows closed to due to the large amount of smoke coming from the fire.”

As of 1pm the road was still shut for clean-up crews to work.
