Sandwell slavery arrests: Three released on bail after raids

Three men arrested on suspicion of modern slavery offences have been bailed by police.

The trio were held after police raids at four sites in Sandwell on Tuesday.

But after being quizzed by officers the three men - a 52-year-old and 26-year-old from West Bromwich, and a 47-year-old from Handsworth Wood - were released on bail yesterday.

Twelve suspected slaves were rescued after the police raids at premises including two recycling centres.

West Midlands Police officers targeted CAP Recycling in Elwell Street, West Bromwich, and sister firm Black Country Recycling in Union Road, Oldbury on Tuesday as part of their probe.

The suspected slaves were taken to a reception centre in Tipton where have been supported by the Red Cross.

If they are identified as victims they will be housed by the Salvation Army outside the region for 28 days while enquiries progress.
