Deborah Bullock, from Lanesfield, lost her brother William, aged 35, to cancer last year, as well as an aunt. Her husband has lost both of his parents to cancer recently too.

Mrs Bullock, 49, who herself is recovering from ovarian cancer, decided to throw the huge bash at Crawford Avenue with pal Anna Agnello, whose sister is recovering from breast cancer.

She told of her personal heartache after the event, from which proceeds were split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge.

She said: "My brother was very poorly and was told he had terminal cancer.

"I had a hysterectomy on the Tuesday and he died on the Thursday.

"Originally, we first met Macmillan when my father passed away.

"The have been supporting us after my little brother died as well.

"The work they do is amazing, they support the whole family. My brother was so well looked after.

"When he was in the later stages just before he died, they stayed with him and were with us when he died. They were supposed to finish their shifts at 4pm but stayed with us until 7.30pm.

"Everyone knows about Macmillan, but Mary Stevens Hospice were wonderful as well and we want to do what we can to help them both. We just seem to be finding out about one person, looking after them, then someone else gets diagnosed."

After their Bank Holiday event, Mrs Bullock and her team are still tallying up cash raised.

She expects to have smashed the initial £1,000 target which was set, and was thrilled with the generosity of kind-hearted folk at the well attended event.

She added: "My friend Anna's sister is recovering from breast cancer, she's had a double mastectomy.

"We both found out that we were doing coffee mornings so thought it'd be a good idea to merge them together and it's ended up becoming a big street party.

"Everyone has been so generous and we had Paw Patrol mascots for the children. It's been amazing."
