The branch will become the latest in the Black Country to close as store's gradually shut down following the company's collapse.

Stores in Wolverhampton and Walsall have already closed.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, who is in charge of economic development at Dudley Council, said the loss of BHS was a blow for the centre and borough as a whole.

He said: "Any business closing down is not good news for anyone.

Sadly this is the position we are in. We would hope this would not be the position but the reality is what it is unfortunately.

"I hope someone else will be able to take up the premises and offer better opportunities.

"The main concern is the jobs. Jobs are key in Dudley and we want to encourage more but there will be jobs lost here.

"We hope whatever moves in will be able to provide similar jobs for local people."

Staff across the 114 remaining stores were formally notified earlier last month that their jobs are going into redundancy consultation.

Company administrator Duff & Phelps has failed to find a buyer for the business as a going concern and will now look to sell the stores off piecemeal.

BHS in Dudley Street, Wolverhampton, shut its doors on August 3 after being a fixture of the city centre for half a century.

Hordes of customers converged on the shop on its final day to take advantage of deals offering up to 50 per cent off, with further discounts at the tills.

Even the fixtures and fittings were up for grabs as shop rails, shelving and mannequins were included in the massive sell-off.
