The travellers have set up camp on playing fields off Newton Road for the fourth time in two years.

Around 20 caravans were on the site near All Saints Church today.

Caravans were seen by residents gaining access to Churchfields last Tuesday after a concrete bollard was removed.

Mr Watson said: "The council and West Midlands Police's joint policy is very clear.

"Encampments on open spaces like this will not be tolerated, yet this is the fourth time this site has now been breached.

"The delay in moving on this latest encampment is simply unacceptable."

Mr Watson also asked for security at the site to be reviewed, and added: "It's clear that there has been criminal damage to get on to the site."

When the first batch of travellers moved on to the land, the council's cabinet member for regeneration and economic investment, Paul Moore, said: "It's ridiculous and unacceptable to have persistent criminal damage being done to the site."
