Northbound traffic came to a standstill between junctions five for Castle Bromwich and six for Spaghetti Junction after the crash, which also involved a car, just after 8pm.

Initially the carriageway was totally closed for the clear-up to be carried out.

Two of lanes were opened again after 9pm, but queues had built up back to junction 4A for the M42.

It was not clear if anyone was injured.
