Three employees from Cannock Electrical Services were fitting a 95mm thick electrical cable from the 20th floor to the basement of a building, Birmingham Magistrates Court heard.

The workers were lowering the cable by hand when it slipped, whipping round and striking them.

One man suffered a badly broken leg, the second a fractured ankle and the third minor injuries.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive into the incident on February 13 this year at the Prominent Building, Hagley Road, Birmingham, found that there was poor planning and supervision of the task and that the method of working was unsafe.

Cannock Electrical Services, of Progress Business Centre, Brookfield Drive, Cannock, was fined a total of £13,000 and ordered to pay costs of over £700 after pleading guilty to a breach of the construction regulations.
