Jamie Lloyd-Webber was at the wheel of a silver Rover when it hit the green Peugeot 306 being driven by the woman, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

"He drove his car into her vehicle and she felt immediate pain in the chest and head. There was smoke in the vehicle and she began to choke," said Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting.

The 31-year-old defendant had been in a relationship with her about 12 months before suddenly changing and becoming argumentative prompting her to end the affair on April 22.

As they parted she saw him mouth the words: 'You watch,' continued the prosecutor.

The crash happened as she drove along Church Lane in West Bromwich on April 25. She was so scared when she realised the identity of the other motorist that she locked herself in her car until he drove off.

"She was scared by what had happened and what could take place, "explained Mr Edwards. She later told police: "Previously I did not believe his threats but now I do and am scared of him. I am just so frightened for my children and myself."

Mr Andrew Bell, defending, said: "He is sorry and has written to the woman concerned apologising for what happened."

Lloyd-Webber from Butts Road, Chuckery, Walsall - who had spent four months in custody on remand waiting for the case to come to court - admitted dangerous driving and assault. He was given a 15 month jail sentence suspended for two years.

Judge Martin Walsh told him: "You dove a vehicle that collided with another one driven by the woman with whom you had recently had a relationship causing her some physical injuries. There was a gross and obvious risk that she could have been badly hurt."

Lloyd-Webber was also banned from driving for three years and ordered not to have contact of any kind with the woman for the next four years.
