Drunk mother jailed for high-heel attack nightclub attack on woman

A drunk mother-of-two who left a young woman scarred for life after hitting her with a high-heeled shoe she hurled has been jailed for 24 weeks.

Margaret Flynn had been drinking heavily and was ejected from a Stourbridge nightspot after getting into a heated altercation with another woman, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

She hurled the shoe as she was leaving Arena in Hagley Road, accidentally hitting Sarah Parkes on the forehead and causing a gash that needed nine stitches.

At the time of the attack 28-year-old Flynn was the subject of a suspended prison sentence imposed for battery - another offence she committed while drunk.

Judge Mark Eades told Flynn, of Jasmine Road, Dudley she had been given the chance to retain her freedom at the earlier hearing but had done little to curb her bad behaviour.

"You were drunk, you threw the shoe at someone else and it missed them and hit a third party," he said.

"In my view the sands of time have run out for you and it's time for you to face the music."

Flynn admitted assaulting Miss Parkes causing her actual bodily harm and also breaching a suspended prison sentence.

Miss Nicole Steers, defending, said Flynn was full of remorse for her actions.

"She threw the shoe recklessly," she added.

"It was a single blow at a time when she was very drunk. She drinks and she misbehaves."

Miss Steers said Flynn was willing to undergo treatment for her alcohol abuse as she unsuccessfully pleaded with the Judge to give her one more chance.

Mr Harinder Pal Dhami, prosecuting, said Miss Parkes had been walking out of the nightspot with her partner when she suddenly felt a 'whack' to her forehead and discovered she was bleeding badly.

In a victim impact statement she told police the incident had badly affected her confidence and she was now wary and anxious about going out at night.

Miss Parkes said she suffered a lot of pain and had been scarred for life, adding 'I have no idea who the assailant was.'

Judge Eades said it was clear Flynn - who has 10 previous convictions on her record - had been 'drinking herself into oblivion' and had little recollection of the incident, as he jailed her for 12 weeks for the assault.

Flynn had been given an 18-week jail term suspended for a year for the previous battery conviction and the judge ruled she should have to serve 12 weeks from that sentence - to run consecutively.
