Around 14 motorhomes moved onto the site of the Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre in Bentley Bridge, Wednesfield, yesterday morning.

A barrier on the car park is said to have been damaged when the group entered the site.

Police say they have been made aware of the situation and are awaiting instructions from Wolverhampton council.

Travellers on the site on Friday

Wolverhampton council's cabinet member for city environment, Councillor Steve Evans, said: "The group of travellers moved onto the car park at Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre on Thursday.

"There are approximately 14 caravans in the group and we are working closely with Places for People Leisure, which operates the site, to minimise any inconvenience to customers.

The centre remains open as usual.
