Michael Nock was one of two bikers killed as a result of a head-on collision that took place on the A5 last Wednesday morning.

Mr Nock, 44, from Featherstone, was riding a red BMW motorcycle when it collided with a blue and white Suziki ridden by David Harvey Smith, aged 49, from Cannock.

Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene and a woman who witnessed the crash from a nearby van also had to be treated for shock.

The grieving family of Mr Knock revealed their devastation in a statement, which reads: "Michael was a devoted father, loving husband, caring son and valued member of the local community.

"His loss is devastating to those who love him.

"As his family we would like to thank people for their ongoing support.

" We now request that we are given the time we need to grieve."

Following the crash, a seven-mile stretch of the A5 was closed between Weston-under-Lizard and Gailey, while a detailed examination of the scene took place.

The A41 was also closed to stop vehicles joining the A5, leading to long delays for motorists and HGV drivers were advised to avoid the area completely as their vehicles are unsuitable for nearby country lanes.

Staffordshire Police spokesperson Faye Casey said police are still looking in to what happened and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

She said: "An investigation into the circumstances of exactly what happened is ongoing and we are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 189 of July 29."

In the aftermath of the tragic crash, the family of Mr Smith released a statement expressing their sadness at the loss of the 'beloved father, partner, grandfather and friend'.

Their statement also spoke of their gratitude for the support they had received from relatives and friends.
