Dean John Price, aged 32, of Willenhall Lane, died at the River Esk in Longtown on June 30.

He was dragged underwater by currents while attempting to rescue seven-year-old daughter Delilah.

His daughter survived thanks to off-duty firefighter Geoff Maxwell, who heard the family screaming for help, while working on a house nearby.

The inquest, which was opened at the Coroner's Court in Cockermouth on Monday, was adjourned until November 24.
