Record 1.8m visitors for Wednesfield's Bentley Bridge

Record numbers of visitors flocked to Bentley Bridge retail park in the last year, new figures show.

The Wednesfield site clocked up 1.8 million visitors in 2014 - up 13 per cent on the previous year.

It also saw a 5.2 per cent increase in the number of vehicles coming into the site each week, with 81,000 people travelling by car to use the shops, supermarkets, cinema and restaurants.

Stuart Lunn, senior director at DTZ, leasing advisor to Axa Real Estate, which owns the retail park at, said: "The success of Bentley Bridge has come about from close working relationships between Sainsbury's, the retail park and the leisure park.

"Everyone involved is working together and trying to create a very positive environment for shoppers in the immediate area."

Councillor Phil Bateman, who represents Wednesfield North, welcomed the figures.

He added: "Bentley Bridge is still growing and going from strength to strength.

"More than 500 jobs are provided by the retail stores that are trading there.

"Bentley Bridge has played a big part in Wednesfield being recognised as a very important suburb in Wolverhampton.

"It has a strong retail base now and it has a strong sense of belonging within the town."
