There were events staged across the region at Stourbridge, Halesowen, Pelsall and Wombourne over the weekend.

While some basked in the sunshine of Saturday others had to contend with the showers of Sunday - but fun was had regardless of the weather.

Record crowds flocked to the revived Wombourne Carnival, which had to be cancelled last year after problems with insurance.

Organisers say between 5,000 and 7,000 people were at yesterday's event, with even a thunder shower at 2pm couldn't dampen villagers spirits.

Chairwoman Victoria Bratt said the day had been 'absolutely brilliant': "There have been more people than ever before, it is an absolutely full turnout."

Around 6,000 flocked to Pelsall where there was a procession of floats and other entertainment including fun fair, dog show, marching band, dancers and fire service display.

Ian Rhydderch, secretary of the Pelsall Carnival Committee, said there had been a good atmosphere on Saturday with the weather on their side.

Hundreds turned out for the return of the Halesowen Carnival.

It had been 30 years since the event was last held but there was no shortage of smiling faces at Highfields Park as there was everything from dancers to live music.

Councillor Stuart Henley who sits on the organising committee said: "We have had brilliant feedback from everyone here.

Pouring rain failed to dampen the crowd's spirit in Stourbridge as the town held its annual carnival.

The highlight of the event was the parade which this years had a theme of 'Stourbridge Through the Ages'.
