Christian Hugh Davies - known as Hugh - was hailed as 'caring and courageous' by his family.

The 50-year-old died after his Honda motorbike was involved in a collision with a white van, around a mile from Russells Hall Hospital where he worked.

The crash happened on Pedmore Road at the junction with The Gateway.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, while tributes have been paid to Mr Davies, a charge nurse who had worked at the hospital since 1991.

His long-term partner, Julie Adams, said: "Hugh is the love of my life, my best friend and my soul mate. He is the best thing that ever happened to me and made me laugh every day.

"I love you to the moon and stars and solar system and infinity and beyond," she said.

Mr Davies' daughter Tanaya, aged 19, said her Dad was one of a kind.

She added: "What you see is what you get and he did not change for anyone.

"He was a caring, courageous and very cheeky man. I love him with every ounce of my body and wish that I still could have that one last game with him.

"He was my hero and still always will be."

Friends of Mr Davies, who lived in Amblecote having grown up in Kingswinford, described him as a 'motorbike fanatic'.

It is understood staff across the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, were due to observe a minute's silence in his memory today (MON).

A close friend said a book of condolence had been opened at the hospital for grieving colleagues to pay tribute to Mr Davies.

Many of his friends and colleagues have posted their own messages on Mr Davies' Facebook page.

One colleague, said: "Russells Hall has lost one truly amazing, caring, friendly, knowledgeable, supportive, funny Charge Nurse Hugh Davies."

Mr Davies came off his bike in the crash shortly before 7pm on Tuesday, June 30. Sadly, despite the efforts of passers-by and ambulance staff, he could not be saved.

The driver of the van was spoken to at the scene. Police are seeking witnesses and Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said enquiries are on-going.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call Sergeant Wood on 101.
