The family of Richard Key organised a night of fun at the Victory Club, New Invention, on what would have been Richard's 30th birthday.

He was killed in a road traffic accident in Essington in January 2005, aged 19.

More than 250 friends and family attended the celebration, which featured a singer, disco, and raffle.

Denise Robinson, Richard's mother, said: "This night was everything Richard would have wanted - family and friends celebrating his birthday.

"The fact that we were able to raise money for worthy charities somehow keeps Richards's memory alive."

Local sight loss charity Beacon and Brake Road Safety Charity will benefit from the fundraiser, and both have praised Richard's family and friends.

Arwyn Jones, chief executive of Beacon Centre, said: "Richard's was a tragic loss to his family and friends, but it is heartening see how they keep his memory alive and raise much needed money for charity."

Joe Fenton, Brakes Community Fundraising Officer, said: "All money raised goes back into Brakes' dedicated work preventing road deaths and injury and supporting people bereaved or injured in road crashes."
