The teenager died aged 19 on May 14 last year following a four year battle with bowel cancer.

His funeral was held at the cathedral, where more than 11,000 people paid their respects as part of a two day vigil.

The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, said: "Stephen Sutton was a remarkable young man. He captured our imagination by the way he chose to extract something good, joyful and positive from every minute of his life even as it was threatened by terminal illness.

"He has given so much to so many people. His example is tremendous. It was an absolute honour for us to have hosted his Funeral Vigil last year and we want to be able to remember him this year with another commemorative thumbs up."

The service will take place at 11am.

Teenage Cancer Trust will also be marking the anniversary online at the same time.

Supporters are being asked to post their 'Thumbs Up' selfies using #thumbsupforStephen on social media.

Stephen hoped to raise £10,000 for the trust when he created a 46 item bucket list- instead the former Chase Terrace Technology College pupil raised £3million before he died.

The sum increased to a final total of £5m as donations hit £1,000 a minute after the news of his death broke.
