Police blocked the road between Moxley and Wednesbury for up to three hours due to safety fears over the precarious board.

Police and paramedics were called at 6.45am to the A41 Black Country New Road near the Patent Shaft roundabout.

The lorry had left the road, smashing through two billboards and a fence to land partially on the yard at Jewson builders merchants.

Paramedics checked over the driver who was uninjured and did not require hospital treatment.

A spokesman for Jewson's in Wednesbury said: "Luckily there were no injuries and we are just assessing the damage at the moment."

Motorists were forced to take alternative routes as the road between the Patent Shaft island to the Steel roundabout until around 9.30am.

Police spokesman Catherine Hickman said: "No one was injured but the road was closed until 9.30am, once the damaged billboard had been made safe."

Splinted boarding and debris surrounded the lorry in the aftermath of the accident.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
