PC Adam Rushton first met the burglary victim in 2006 when she was 21 and was going through relationship difficulties.

He is accused of 10 counts of misconduct in a public office and two charges of obtaining personal data.

Giving evidence at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday the woman said she was surprised when she discovered he was being investigated.

She said she exchanged flirtatious text messages and intimate images with him on and off over a period of time because she wanted to 'keep him' just in case she needed his help in future.

She told the jury that he visited at least two of her addresses to have sex, but she could not recall all of their meetings and that it could have been up to five times.

In cross examination by Mr Kevin Baumber, defending Rushton, he said that the police officer never had sex with her.

Mr Baumber said: "Whereas the messages were explicit and flirtatious, it never reached the point of having sexual activities?"

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, replied: "It did."

Mr Baumber said: "It was pointing that way but fizzled out?"

She replied: "I'm saying it did happen."

Rushton, who is based at Longton police station, allegedly had sex with seven women, one as young as 17 when he was on duty.

The prosecution also claim he used police computers to check the details of two of the women.

None of them have complained about his behaviour.

Rushton was arrested in 2013 after an investigation by Staffordshire Police and the Independent Complaints Commission.

He denies all the offences.

The trial continues.
