Regeneration chiefs at Walsall Council said work is on track for the fashion giant's store and new Co-op base. Both will create 150 jobs.

The council has pumped in £8 million from its own reserves to kickstart the long-awaited scheme as part of a £21m revamp of the centre. It is expected the keys will be handed over in April so shop fittings can be carried out with the aim of being opened in the summer.

Regeneration chief Councillor Mohammed Nazir, said: "It will be a real shopping place for people to come to in the town centre."
