A new housing estate boasting almost 400 homes looks set to get the nod from planning bosses.

Developers want to build 374 houses on land between Church Street and Bridge Cross Road in Burntwood. As part of the scheme, Public open space will also be created.

Barratt Homes, Taylor Wimpey and London & Cambridge Properties are behind the plans which have been recommended for approval.

Ten residents have objected. They raise concerns such as increased traffic and an added strain on already stretched services in the town.

The homes will be a mixture of two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments. Fifty-eight will be classed as affordable for families on low wages.

County and district councillor Sue Woodward said: "People need houses and so that must be a priority issue. But I'm disappointed that the much-needed level of affordable housing is so low at 17 per cent and that, in spite of the developers advertising the estate's proximity to Chasewater, they don't yet seem to have addressed the issue of improving access across the by-pass."

Lichfield District Council planning committee will make a decision on the plans at their next meeting on Monday.
