As part of the build-up to the game on March 22, residents, businesses and schools in the town are being encouraged to get behind Dean Smith's boys by decking the town out in the team's colours using banners, scarves and shirts.

Walsall are taking on fellow League One side Bristol City in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on March 22.

Sponsors Johnstone's Paint will be asking Saddlers fans to 'Paint Walsall Red' on March 10 and the trophy itself will be making an appearance in the town.

Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone's Paint, said: "Excitement is high across Walsall with the club's first appearance at Wembley drawing ever closer.

"Painting the town red is a fantastic way for the whole community to come together and demonstrate their support for Dean Smith and the team.

"We are asking everyone to get into the Wembley spirit and deck the town out in red.

"There are no restrictions on what we are looking for. It would be great to see shops, offices and businesses backing the team by putting red displays in their windows and schools taking part in non-uniform days to allow children to dress in red.

"We want to make it a very exciting day and continue to build the feel good factor around the whole Walsall community ahead of the big game."

Ticket sales for Walsall's first Wembley final have surpassed the 25,000 mark. The club received an extra 5,000 seats after selling its initial 20,000.

The Saddlers have seen a 'phenomenal' demand for tickets with fans have queuing for hours to secure their seats.

Saddlers chiefs said more seats will be made available to the team if required to meet brisk demand for the final.

Excitement continues to build in the borough for the historic trip to Wembley, the first in the club's 127 year history.

Johnstone's Paint has sponsored the Football League Trophy for the last nine years.
