Woman, 83, injured as car hits wall at Oldbury Sainsbury's

An elderly motorist was seriously hurt when her car struck a wall at a supermarket in Oldbury.

Emergency service crews cut the roof off the grey Nissan Micra to get the 83-year-old woman out after she suffered leg injuries in the incident in the top car par at Sainsbury's, in Bristnall Hall Road.

It is believed that the driver accidentally hit the wall has she tried to manoeuvre the automatic vehicle from a bay in the car park near the cash machines at about 11 am on Saturday.

Watch Commander Eve Greenhouse, of Oldbury Fire Station, said: "We don't know how it happened, but the elderly lady accidentally ran her car into the wall at the front of Sainsbury's. She was badly hurt.

"We had to take the roof off to extricate her.

"Her son was in the car with her at the time, but by the time we got there he had managed to get himself out of the car."

The injured pensioner was taken to Sandwell General Hospital for treatment.
