The city's former Walkabout bar - now called The Stone House - on Queen Street is to close next month.

Leisure property specialists Fleurets are managing the sale of the Grade II listed building which at one time used to be the county court.

Anthony Barnes, who is handling the sale from the firm's Birmingham office, said: "The property is suitable for a variety of styles of licensed retailing and could make an interesting opportunity for a restaurant."

The venue has been one of Wolverhampton's best known student haunts and the go-to place to watch major sporting events on TV.

But its owners iNTERTAIN said it had 'no choice' but to shut it down due to making regular losses.

Its closure comes after the pub underwent a £250,000 makeover in September when its name was changed.

A spokesman for iNTERTAIN said: "Many venues were performing well, however a few sites were loss making, so to continue running them as they were was not viable. Unfortunately The Stone House is one of those venues."
