John Henderson will be leaving his post as general officer commanding the British Army in Germany.

Mr Henderson's salary is £180,000, with a performance related bonus of up to eight per cent on top of that.

He said today: "Staffordshire County Council has an ambitious strategy for improving the lives of its residents and I look forward to bringing my skills and experience to contribute to this effort.

"I have met many partners and staff already and there is no doubt there is a shared passion to do great things for Staffordshire and its people and I look forward to being part of that team."

Mr Henderson replaces previous chief executive Nick Bell who left the council in October to take up a new role with Prospects Group, a firm specialising in education and employment work.

Interim chief executive John Tradewell will continue in the role until Mr Henderson takes up his new role in May.
