Plans to introduce a raft of increased fees and charges across Wolverhampton have been approved by city council bosses.

Burial fees, the cost of getting married, renting market stalls, keeping fit and exterminating rats and mice are all set to become more expensive next year.

Traders at indoor markets in Wolverhampton and Bilston will be hit with rent increases of around five per cent, while many bereavement and pest control services will also rise sharply.

Most car parking fees across the city have been frozen.

The increases were announced following the city council's annual review of fees and charges.

Councillor Andrew Johnson, cabinet member for resources, said the figures related to a number of factors, including inflation, Government requirements and covering the cost of providing resources.

He added: "Careful consideration is given to relevant factors when reviewing charges and where possible we will balance cost pressures with the need to do what is in the best interests of the city and our economy."

The changes will go before full council later this month and will come into effect on January 1 if ratified.
