West Bromwich town centre open again after suspect package alert

West Bromwich town centre was sealed off by police today amid reports that a suspect package had been found.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area, and buses and cars were among those caught up in delays.

The drama unfolded shortly after 4pm. The High Street stretch between Temple Street and the Strollers pub was shut. A police dog unit was assessing the package.

It opened again shortly before 6pm.

West Midlands Police spokesman Brigg Ford: "It was a targeted attempt to cause concern but there is no risk to the public."
