It was the day Carla Marshall has dreamed of – for her terminally ill son to give her away at her wedding day.
And that day came true as the 19-year-old walked down the aisle with her little boy.
Carla, from Wolverhampton, and her boyfriend Kyle Matthews, 22, had mixed emotions as they took part in a mock-up wedding yesterday.
Friends, family and donors had rallied round to make the ceremony a reality because her two-year-old son D’shawn has been given less than six months to live.
Carla, wanted him to see her ‘get married’, before he loses his battle with several health problems.
Yesterday the pair were blessed in a marriage re-enactment at St Michael and All Angels Church, in Penkridge.
The former student walked down the aisle in a fabulous vintage style purple gown to Ellie Goulding’s hit ballad How Much Do I Love You. And as she arrived her young son was at her side, but blissfully fast asleep in his special buggy.
The event was led by the Rev Greg Yerbury, who opened up the church, for the service after the family and the charity Dads appealed for help to organise the special day.
Carla says: “It’s been absolutely amazing and emotional at the same time. I would just like to say big thank you to everyone for their donations and support. I can’t thank you all enough for making this such a special day for us all.”
It was part of a modest bucket list that former student Carla, of in Chesterton Road, Wednesfield has drawn up for her son to enjoy.
They involve visits to children’s theme parks and tourist centres., such as ThomasLand at Drayton Manor Park, the Sea Life Centre and the Severn Valley Railway.
She arranged the event because he will not be around when she one day she ties the knot for real.
D’shawn suffers from epilepsy, brain damage, microcephaly, delayed development and partial sight. He cannot walk, talk, hold his head up or even grasp toys, and has to be tube fed.Subscribe to our Newsletter
