Firefighters were called to the A459 Birmingham Road outside St John's Retail Park in Wolverhampton just before 1.30pm.

The car had positioned itself on the central reservation, just before the traffic lights at the Ring Road and Snow Hill next to the Rybrook garage.

One fire engine with five firefighters arrived at the scene within three minutes of being called.

Neil Spencer, spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service, said: "We were called at 1.26pm to reports a car was on fire near the traffic lights.

"The car alight was on the duel carriageway and firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet."

West Midland Police officers were also at the scene.

Wolverhampton Council said Snow Hill was closed inbound from the Ring Road as a result.
