Two men were seen running away from the scene after a BMW crashed into four parked cars along Wolverhampton Road East A459 at around 7am this morning, leaving a 'trail of carnage', residents claim.

No one is believed to have been injured in the incident but a parked silver Mercedes was flipped onto a white Hyundai which suffered damage along with a third silver car and a white car which was forced onto the pavement.

The black BMW that crashed into them suffered a crumpled bonnet while debris was scattered across the road.

It follows another incident in the same stretch of the road between Dudding Road and Lawnswood Avenue six days ago - a high speed crash saw a car's engine landed 20 metres away and up to four men fled the scene.

Claire Harrison, aged 52, is a resident on Wolverhampton Road East. Her car was badly damaged.

She said: "I was down the road by the school at the time it happened and it is the second crash in a week.

"The BMW overtook another car but lost control and my heart was in my mouth. They crashed into a parked car which flipped over onto the car behind it. Our car, which was parked outside our house, was pushed onto the pavement because of the force of it and it will have to be written off.

"Four cars have been destroyed and two walls have been ruined. It is a trail of carnage.

"One man got out of the car and shouted to the other to get out and run.

"All the children go to school around here and this was at 7am so we are lucky it is a weekend and no one was hurt.

"The car debris was ridiculous, it was all over the road because the whole road has cars parked down it."

Four months ago, the residents set up a petition to introduce traffic calming measures on the road which was signed by dozens of residents.

Her husband, Paul Harrison, aged 51, said: "At the moment it is cars and brick walls but eventually it will be a child or a person. We have asked the council to introduce traffic calming measures, they need to do something rather quickly and listen to us.

"The speed cameras down this road have been turned off and there are no traffic calming measures from Sedgley to here. God knows how nobody has been killed.

Louis Groves, aged 25, lives on the same road and agrees something needs to be done.

He said: "The cameras do not work and there are no lights down this road. Drivers bomb down this road.

"There needs to be speed bumps or some kind of traffic management, it happens too often."

A police spokeswoman said: "A BMW crashed into several parked cars on Wolverhampton Road East this morning around 7am. The occupants fled the scene. No injuries have been reported. Enquiries are on-going."

Wolverhampton Road East was closed off for several hours while the emergency services made the scene safe.
