Annette Denson was driving home to Codsall with husband Graham after visiting their son in Finchfield when they came across the obstacle at about 12.45pm under the bridge on Compton Road in Wolverhampton.

The 70-year-old said: "Luckily we were able to drive round on the footpath but lorries and buses would not have been able to.

"I thought the driver would be a bit embarrassed - he would feel a bit silly."

She added she had never come across a lorry stuck under a bridge before.

The trapped HGV caused a small build up of traffic as cars manoeuvred their way past.
