Woman trapped as car overturns near Wolverhampton

A woman was taken to hospital after her car overturned in a crash near Wolverhampton this morning.

The woman was left trapped when the Peugeot 207 she was in ended up on its side following the crash in Dene Road, Lower Penn.

The incident happened at around 10am close to the junction with Penstone Lane and Orton Lane.

It is believed the car was travelling around a bend when it lost control in the wet weather conditions and flipped, leaving the woman trapped for around 15 minutes.

No other vehicles were involved.

The woman was helped out of the vehicle by members of the public before emergency services arrived..

West Midlands Fire Service crews were at the scene shortly after the incident and helped push the car back onto its wheels.

A spokesperson from Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control said: "We attended the scene and when we got there a woman had self-extricated.

"She was taken to hospital for precautionary checks."

Meanwhile a man has died after a lorry crash on the M5 near Oldbury which shut a stretch of the motorway for six hours.
