The 'Walkies in the Woods' event will see dogs and their walkers stroll 5km from Marquis Drive in Cannock Chase, where stalls and a raffle will be set up on the field with an aim to raise £10,000.

Lisa Carson, the event's organiser, said: "The event is on July 7 and it starts on Marquis Drive.

"We're inviting dogs to come along with their owners and walk the 5km and we're asking the dogs to raise sponsorship and set up sponsorship forms.

"For every dog that registers they will get an adult free to accompany them.

"It's £10 per dog and that includes a free adult, kids walk for free.

"The dog that raises the most sponsorship will get a big bone prize and every dog which takes part will get a free Walkies in the Woods tag for their collar.

"We're hoping to get between 150 and 200 dogs taking part and raise £10,000.

"The hospice costs £3 million a year to run and we need to raise £2m of that by fundraising in the local community.

"The £10,000 would pay for a week of care for our patients in the in-patient unit, so we're looking to fund that."

Lisa said she is hoping the event will become an annual fundraising activity.
