Boy seriously injured in crash involving car and lamppost in West Bromwich

A boy has been seriously injured in a crash in West Bromwich.

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving a car and a lamppost at the junction of the A41 Black Country New Road, with the junction of Richmond Street, shortly before 9pm on Sunday night.

A 11-year-old boy, a passenger in the car, was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital with serious leg injuries.

A teenage girl and an adult were also assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a lamppost at the junction of the A41 Black Country New Road and Richmond Street, West Bromwich at 8.44pm last night.

"An ambulance, paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene. On arrival crews found three patients.

"One passenger, a boy, sustained a serious injury and received trauma care on scene before being taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

"A teenage girl and an adult were given treatment on scene for minor injuries before the girl was taken to the same hospital as a precaution."

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after a car hit a lamppost on Richmond Street in Hill Top, West Bromwich just before 9pm on Sunday night.

"An 11-year-old boy who was a passenger in the car was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries, where he remained on Monday.

"Enquiries continue and anyone with information is asked to contact us."
