The driver of a green Citroen C3 was seriously injured when his car collided with a bus and hit a lamppost in Hamstead Road, Handsworth, on Thursday morning.

The man, 29, was taken to hospital and on Friday was said to be in a critical but stable condition.

No one was else was injured in the collision, which took place at around 10.55am and caused major damage to the front of the car.

Officers have spoken with the National Express bus driver who is said to be helping with enquiries.

West Midlands Police now believe the driver of the Citroen C3 may have been involved in a minor collision with another vehicle a few minutes earlier.

The driver of the second car was not injured.

Det Con Chris Ridge, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: “If anyone was on Hamstead Road yesterday morning and saw what happened I would urge them to get in touch.

"We are working to build up a clear picture of what happened here and would urge anyone with any dashcam footage to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information can contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log 1145 of April 30.
