Laura Perry will marry her fiancé Ben Morris, 23, from Penkridge, next month after he popped the question about two weeks ago.

It comes after the 22-year-old, from Brewood, was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year and after undergoing an operation and two lots of chemotherapy, doctors have said they would not carry out anymore treatment.

Now, family and friends are hoping to raise up to £8,000 to make it the day the couple have always dreamed of.

With the wedding date on May 30 – there is just over a month to raise an extra £4,000, after getting together around half of the money needed so far already. Laura, who went to Wolgarston High School in Penkridge and has a place at the University of Birmingham in September, said: "Me and Ben met at a music school when we were 15. We spend everyday together. Ben proposed at home and I was so surprised." The pair are huge fans of author J. R. R. Tolkien and the wedding is set to have a Tolkien theme to it.

Both avid music fans and musicians, the pair enjoy going to gigs, festivals and following Ben's band The Shine across the region.

Originally the family were just fundraising for Laura and Ben to see the northern lights together but it all changed when he proposed.

Several coffee mornings and fundraising events by various friends and family have helped raise the £4,500 so far – but the family hope people will donate via a Just Giving to keep the ball rolling.

Sister Louise Perrins, of Hagley, near Stourbridge, is leading the campaign to raise money with Laura's twin Katie.
