POLL: Have you been affected by the closure of Stafford's A&E to children?

'Don't bring your children to Stafford County Hospital's A&E' - that was the message from health trust officials following concerns it was found to be 'clinically unsafe'.

Hospital chiefs have been unable to say when the department would reopen.

New Cross Hospital's A&E is set to see hundreds of extra patients each month after emergency services for children were suspended.

And the move is also expected to result in an influx of people arriving at Walsall Manor Hospital in he wake of the decision.

A shortage of staff with the right specialist training in paediatrics and anaesthetics, including resuscitation and life-support had forced the suspension of services at the scandal-hit hospital to all patients under 18, the trust said.

It means parents in Stafford will have to travel much further to get to the nearest children's A&E service, with Royal Stoke University Hospital 17 miles away and Walsall's Manor Hospital and Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital more than 20 miles away.

The closure of the children's centre at Weston Road comes after a review by the West Midlands Quality Review Service.

Campaigners have vowed to take their concerns over the closure to the door of the Prime Minister Theresa May.

Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy says he is pushing for the matter to be resolved urgently.

But the Conservative did come under fire from people on Twitter, many disappointed by the move.
