Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust stated they had treated people for the virus but denied there had been any outbreak.

They have issued advice to people who were suffering flu-like symptoms.

Jo Ellison, head of infection control at the trust, said: "This year's seasonal influenza is predominantly the H1N1 (Swine flu) Strain.

"As with all winters, we are having some patients admitted from the community with influenza.

"The most important protection people can have is to be immunised and we would urge anyone who has an underlying health concern, who is pregnant or over 65, to arrange vaccination through their GP.

"If people do become ill with flu-like symptoms they should drink plenty of fluids and take paracetamol.

"People should adopt good hand hygiene and dispose of tissues in a plastic bag to reduce spread.

"Recovery should happen within a couple of days.

"Anyone who has worsening symptoms, causing them concern, should contact their GP in their first instance."
