Investment is needed at Walsall Manor Hospital

A plea for Government funding to tackle the rising number of emergency hospital admissions in Walsall has been made.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the Manor Hospital, has seen a spike in emergency patients over the last year.

The number has been far higher than they had planned for and now calls are being made for urgent investment. Bosses say increased demand from Staffordshire has put pressure on services.

Walsall North MP David Winnick has now written to health secretary Jeremy Hunt and NHS funding chief David Flory, of the Trust Development Authority, calling for more investment.

Hospital bosses have said a £14m upgrade is necessary to cope with the rising number of patients. Mr Winnick said extra wards are also needed at the site.
