Wards were shut more than a week ago because of fears over the contagious illness spreading.

Although the number of wards affected has dropped from eight to four the visitor lockdown was continuing today.

Health chiefs were meeting again at lunchtime to see if wards could finally reopen.

Despite the visitor ban, outpatient appointments are running as normal and the A&E is still open.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust have insisted that the action has needed to be taken.
