Steve Evans has drawn strength as he copes with incurable cancer by reaching out to the world through Twitter – with people across the world inspired by his amazing strength.

And his followers on the social network now number more than 24,000.

He got a 7,000-follower boost this week after appearing on the BBC's Breakfast programme and Richard Bacon's show on Radio Five Live, to which he has become a regular contributor in recent months.

The former Wolverhampton City Council building surveyor has been described by Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin as one of her favourite guests while Richard Bacon has been to see Steve in hospital. The 52-year-old father of two, of Old Fallings Lane, has thanked people for their messages of support during what he refers to as his 'dark' moments in hospital.

He was diagnosed two years ago but has recently chosen to not undergo any more aggressive treatments and to instead receive care that will give him a better quality of life, rather than increase the time he has left.

He is spending time fishing but also still gives speeches as part of his other profession, a magician and comedian.

Steve has also continued to work for the Civic Halls as a concierge whenever he is able, helping disabled people who come to shows and gigs. He spent 32 years with the council including more than a decade with the Civic looking after big name stars who perform there. His name was recently added to a hall of fame alongside the likes of Slade's Noddy Holder, whom Steve refers to as 'god'.

"Thanks to Twitter I've been receiving as much love as any one human being can cope with." Steve said. "It's better than morphine, although the morphine does help.

"I went on the TV and on radio and the number of followers I have on Twitter jumped 7,000.

"I find that if I'm feeling upset or low and I say something about it on Twitter, I can have about 150 people reply and encourage me."
